The holiday season is a time to take a look back on the past year and be grateful for everything we have, it’s also a time to help those who may not be as fortunate. One organization who goes above and beyond to help children in our community is the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lowell. Their mission is “to inspire and enable young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens through dedicated staff and innovative programs, provided in a safe environment”. They serve youths ages 7-18, and provide them with educational, social, recreational, and cultural programming.
The club has many programs available for their youths and trust us when we say there is something for everyone. From leadership programs such as their Keystone Club and FUTURE Program, to arts and crafts, song writing, educational and career development programs that help children prepare for college and life after high school, to health and life skills, to sports, fitness, and recreation, children who attend the club are certainly never bored. It’s a great resource in this community and truly makes a difference in the lives of the children who attend. It gives them a safe environment where they can get help with homework, have a healthy meal, and play with their friends after school.
The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lowell works hard to ensure that every child who wants to become a member is able. They have an annual fee of $26 per child, but no child is ever turned away due to lack of funds and scholarships are available for those who are not able to afford the annual fee. As you can imagine, the cost to the club is much greater than that, closer to $600 per child, so they rely on donations from local businesses, organizations, and members of the community to help them raise money. If you’d like to help the Boys and Girls Club by making a donation, it would be greatly appreciated, especially during the holiday season. They do their best to make sure every club member has a happy holiday and even get them each an age-appropriate gift on their wish list.
Speaking of the holidays, it’s the perfect time to mention their 18th Annual Holiday Auction! It is going to be taking place this Thursday, December 3rd at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium. The funds raised at this auction allow them to keep their membership fees low, maintain their scholarships, and support the many programs that they offer. Last year they raised over $230,000 at this event, and this year their goal is $250,000! Can you help them reach it? There will be wonderful prizes and auction items available in all price ranges, tickets can be purchased by clicking here.
There are many other ways to help other than making a donation, the Club is always looking for volunteers to help with their programs, serve meals, and much more. Anyone who is interested and wants to learn more about the Club can schedule a visit to meet the staff and kids. We are very grateful to have the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lowell as Chamber members and hope you’ll consider them if you plan on donating to a worthy cause this holiday season.
