Interview with Dug North

Q. What got you involved in your industry?

A. I have always been fascinated by mechanical things — especially automata which are automatic moving figures driven by clockwork. My research into this field led to the realization that all of the best automata were created by watch and clock-makers. This prompted me to begin reading and taking classes in clock repair.

Q. What is your business’ specialty?

A. I specialize in the repair of the antique mechanical clocks that you are most likely to find in New England homes. These come in many shapes and sizes including mantle clocks, wall clocks, and floor-standing clocks. Often they were made companies such as Ansonia, Boston, Chelsea, Gilbert, Howard, Ingraham, Ithaca, Jerome, Kroeber, New Haven, Pratt, Sessions, Seth Thomas, Terry, Waltham, Waterbury, and Welch. Of course, I also work on plenty of European-made clocks too. Read The Rest »
