Support Services for New Parents

Lowell General Hospital is a strong supporter of breastfeeding and expressing mothers. New mothers/parents receive support services while they are patients up on the Mother Infant Unit but our support doesn’t end when they are discharged from the hospital. We are very proud of our numerous service lines that can help guide and assist parents long after they leave our immediate care.
Our New Mothers Support Group is one of our support services geared towards new mothers. This group is facilitated by a Lactation consultant and is offered on a weekly basis from 10am till 12pm in the Hanchett Board Room at the Main Campus.
Lowell General Hospital also has a Lactation clinic available as an outpatient service. New parents are welcome to book appointments with lactation consultants to help them adjust and cope with breastfeeding. This is a great way for new parents to ask questions, receive tips and reinforce what was learned while they were up on the unit.
The Center for Community Health and Wellness also has an Annual World Breastfeeding Week Celebration event that takes place every August in the Clark Auditorium at the Main Campus. This year’s theme is: Breastfeeding and Work-Let’s make it WORK! Encouraging mothers to continue to breastfeed or express after their return to work and strongly recommend that employers make arrangements for employees to do so. Our event will be on Wednesday, August from 5-7pm.
