Introducing the UniCare Heart

By David Morales, general manager of UniCare

Undoubtedly, the pandemic continues to necessitate transformational change in how we access, deliver, and pay for healthcare. At UniCare, we are fully embracing change to benefit our members’ health journey.

Healthcare means more than “sick care” – it encompasses mental, physical, emotional, and socioeconomic well-being. In short, it means “health.” So, we’re ensuring our organization and culture go beyond healthcare and focus on health. Our company has a 30-year history of improving the lives and health of the local communities we serve to help build a better, more equitable, and healthier Massachusetts.

To more accurately reflect our mission to advance better health, I’m excited to share a new brand, a new look, and a new website for UniCare. Today, we launch our new logo – the UniCare heart – a symbol of our longstanding, continued commitment to our members and their health. We’re also unveiling a revamped website and preparing to introduce innovative digital tools to make our members’ health experience easier and more personalized. Drawing upon the resources from our parent company, Anthem, Inc., we’re launching a new and robust mobile app, web-based tools, provider directories, and expanded telehealth options.

By leveraging technology more effectively, we will improve access to health services – whether medical, behavioral, or wellness – and help address disparities across socioeconomic divides. We will also use digital tools to promote better well-being and healthy lifestyles.

In addition, we will continue to partner with local community organizations to address the interconnected factors – like food, housing, social, and financial circumstances – that influence health. For us, helping Bay State residents and communities means helping our own families, friends, and neighbors.

I’m excited to lead our company on this transformational path, and I can’t wait to share more details about our new digital features in the coming months. Our mission inspires us every day as we work to advance better health for our members and to serve the heart of Massachusetts.
