Misuse of prescription drugs and illegal substances affects the bottom line of US employers to the tune of $193 billion dollars annually. In Massachusetts, the dramatic rise of opioid addiction can be seen across the state. It either already has, or likely will impact your employees or their families. Officials are warning that the epidemic has not yet crested and that all of us, including the business sector, have important roles to play in addressing it.With this conference, The Massachusetts Health Council is responding to requests from management and executives from large and small workplaces for practical, focused information and action strategies.

The conference will cover:

– The Nature and Scope of Opioid Addiction
– What’s Different about this Epidemic
– The Impact of Opioids on Business
– Treatment, Recovery & Prevention
– Managing and Supporting Employees While Keeping the Workplace Safe & Productive
– Employee Assistance Programs
– Substance Use Education in the Workplace
– Speaking with an Employee Who May Be Affected by Addiction
– Legal Considerations: Protecting the Employer & the Employee
– Liabilities and Compliance

Presenters include a behavioral health management company, a treatment center, Employee Assistance Programs, employment attorneys and a local Drug-Free Communities coordinator.

Your participation in this half-day program enables the Council to bring together experts to address an issue that is having a severe impact on Massachusetts. Sponsorship will provide high visibility and recognition as a partner in helping to combat the epidemic facing our state.Purchasing tickets or a table for CEO’s, HR and Benefits professionals, managers, consultants and other interested parties is important as this crisis requires a thorough understanding and “all hands on deck.” Visit www.mahealthcouncil.org to purchase tickets or to sponsor the conference.

Note: The majority of people affected by addiction are employed full time. The objective of the conference is to provide useful information and strategies to the business community, which is one of the sectors that will help turn the tide on this crisis.
