 FOOD PANTRY COORDINATOR 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Food Pantry Coordinator oversees the daily operations of the Lowell Food Pantry including but not limited to supervision and coordination of the food pantry staff and volunteers.

REPORTS TO

The Food Pantry Coordinator reports to the Director of Community Services or his or her designee.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintains the food pantry inventory by placing orders with vendors as well as purchasing food and non-food items from local stores.
  • Trains, schedules and provides daily supervision of food pantry volunteers and staff.
  • Recruit volunteers from parishes and local high schools (public and parochial)
  • Oversees volunteering community groups and assigned responsibilities to volunteers as needed.
  • Performs inventory of food pantry assets on a weekly basis.
  • Processes food donations.
  • Stocks pantry shelves as needed.
  • Coordinates the pick up’s of donations from the Food Banks (Boston and Merrimack Valley), Hannaford’s, Targets, parishes and other places as needed.
  • Responsible for implementing food pantry policies and procedures per the Community Director.
  • Input of pantry data into computer.
  • Insure that the operation of the food pantry meets all health and food safety requirements.
  • Prepare all food pantry monthly reports as needed.
  • Represent the agency and be involved in community meetings regarding hunger and food insecurities.
  • Attend internal and external meetings and trainings as required.
  • Perform other related responsibilities as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work with prior experience in human services and 2 years of supervisory experienced.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) speaking ability a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook is required.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of families with financial hardships, and from varied cultural backgrounds.
  • A valid license and reliable car and adequate insurance.
